3D printing circular economy

3D printing is considered sustainable for a variety of reasons, and in this week's Top 5, our first two videos contribute to that narrative. In our first slot we have an interview with a plastic materials expert from Arkema who talks about the importance of a circular economy in polymer 3D printing. Secondly, we cover a news story about 3D printed seawalls in Miami and how they are an attempt to help the local ecosystem. Our next video shows how to 3D print glass using Fusion 360, and then we show a video from Rapid Shape that asks whether PEEK could replace metal in some cases. Finally, watch a satisfying time-lapse from 3D Potter of a concrete wall being put together for a house. As always, have fun watching!

Top 1: The importance of the circular economy in polymer 3D printing

In this video from EOS, host Björn sits down with Sophie Mulsant-Kern, a plastic materials expert from Arkema, to explore the crucial role of the circular economy in 3D printing. They will explore the process and benefits of a global take-back program for used polymer powders and parts, and explain how manufacturers can easily get involved. Sophie will also provide insights into a professional life cycle assessment (LCA) and highlight the environmental benefits of the program. Watch their conversation to learn how reuse is shaping the future!

Top 2: 3D printed seawalls in Miami

Anya Freeman, CEO and founder of startup Kind Designs, founded her company to address the challenges facing Florida due to climate change. The company uses sustainable, marine life-friendly concrete to 3D print dikes that improve infrastructure, safety and provide habitat for aquatic organisms. Watch these seawalls come to life in this video from your local news station.

Top 3: How to 3D print a screw-top jar

Creating your own 3D models is never easy. That's why we chose this video from What Make Art because it shows viewers how to create a 3D model from scratch. Specifically, they create a threaded jar in the Fusion 360 computer software. Whether you're looking for your next project or just want to see the process, this video provides clear, easy-to-follow instructions. The video provides tips and tricks to ensure the design process goes smoothly. Would you print on this glass?

Top 4: Can PEEK replace metal?

PEEK or polyetheretherketone is a high-performance polymer that is semi-crystalline thermoplastic. It is known for its mechanical properties and is a popular material for FDM printing. The material is often used in the aerospace, medical and automotive industries because it is heat-resistant and wear-resistant. This video from Rapid Direct compares metal to PEEK and highlights their strengths and use cases. Check out the company's statement to learn more:

Top 5: 3D printing a wall segment from 3D Potter

3D Potter is a construction 3D printing company that sells ceramic and cement 3D printers for the art and construction industries. This time-lapse video of a printed wall cement segment shows you how the company's Scara Elite Roadrunner and Continuous Cement Mix Station work. These machines work together to produce high quality cement structures. This wall is designed for use in modular home construction and represents a unique addition.
