The “BIM Situations Report in Spain 2024” published by Buildingsmart Spain has been offering a detailed view of the development of the BIM methodology (BIM method for building information) in the past ten years. According to the CIBIM Observatory, almost 12% of public tenders with BIM requirements were reached, and a survey carried out by experts in the industries has shown that 32% of the organizations have already implemented BIM in their processes.
Despite this progress, the report indicates that the lack of qualified staff is one of the main challenges for the widespread introduction of BIM in Spain. This deficit of specialized training limits the ability of the companies to fully use the advantages offered by this methodology, e.g. B. improved project efficiency and cost reduction.
In response to this need, various educational institutions and training centers, which were authorized by Buildingsmart, increase their efforts to offer specialized BIM programs. For example, on the occasion of its fifth anniversary, BUIC, a university collaboration center, started a scholarship program that offers grants of up to 8,000 euros (80% scholarship) in its BIM and 3D visualization championship programs. This initiative tries to democratize access to high -quality training and to alleviate the lack of qualified experts in this sector.
The report also shows regional differences in the introduction of BIM, whereby Catalonia leads to implementing this methodology. In addition, other challenges are found, e.g. B. the costs associated with the introduction of BIM and the need for standardization in processes. Despite these obstacles, the future of BIM is promising in Spain, with a growing trend for integration into construction projects and a stronger awareness of its advantages in terms of sustainability and efficiency.
