AH-Hyung “Alissa” ParkThe Ronald and Valerie Sugar Dean of the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering and professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering recently received a trio of prices in honor of their research and teaching.
Park, which took over the rudder of the UCLA Samueli in September 2023, became one of 12 recipients of the 2025 Distinguished Women in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering Award through the international union of pure and applied chemistry (IUPAC). She also received the Distinguished Engineering Educator Award for engineers for 2025 and was appointed Fellow of the Asian American Scholar Forum (AASF).
The research of Park focuses on sustainable energy and material conversion paths, whereby the focus on the use of integrated CO2 acquisition, usage and storage technologies is to combat climate change. At the UCLA, she heads a research group of more than a dozen students and postdoctorands to examine the direct air coverage of carbon dioxide and negative emission technologies, including bioenergy with carbon removal and storage and sustainable building materials with low carbon intensity. Her latest works include carbon mineralization, which is integrated into the restoration of energy -relevant critical minerals for the transition of clean energy.
The two -year IUPAC Prize recognizes respected women in the field of chemistry and chemical engineering for their commitment to research, education and leadership in non -profit projects. This year's award winners are officially recognized IUPAC General Assembly and World Chemical Congress In July in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Before entering UCLA, Park was a faculty member of Columbia University in New York from 2007 to 2023. She was also chairman of the Department of Earth and Environmental Engineering and member of the Executive Committee of the Earth Institute and the Columbia Climate School.
Among Her Numerous Awards and Honors Are An American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AICHE) Particle Technology Forum's Shell Thomas Baron Award in Fluid-Particle Systems, A Us Clean Energy Education and Research Award, AICHE Particle Technology Forum Solid Research Inc LectureShip Award, Columbia University's Janette and Armen Avanessians Diversity Award, to American Chemical Society Women Chemists Committee Rising Star Award and a National Science Foundation Career Award. She is a member of numerous editorial and advisory committees and headed a number of global and national discussions about CO2 acquisition, use technologies and the 2019 Carbon Capture, usage and memory report 2019 and the Innovation Innovation Workshop 2017 for Carbon Capture, Use and Storage 2017.
