Rome, 9Th December 2024 – The 6thTh In December “Italy on the move. Highways and the future“, the exhibition at the Fondazione MAXXI | Museo nationale delle arti del XXI secolo in Rome in collaboration with Autostrade per l'Italia. The exhibition shows how highways have shaped the landscape, society and imagination of an entire country. The Italian highway is not just an infrastructure: it is the thread that connects modernity and memory, connecting places, people and stories. Using archive projects, author photos, evolving maps and iconic images, the exhibition takes visitors on a spectacular journey through time and space, through the history of highways, but also through their recurring places and themes. Created to mark the 100th anniversary of the construction of Italy's first motorway in 1924, the exhibition celebrates the role of the motorway as a protagonist of everyday life and collective history.
Design architecture also plays a central role in one part of the exhibition, and here the Valvigna architectural project, the industrial headquarters of the Prada Group designed by the architect Guido Canali, is narrated. With its balance between green areas and interior spaces, based on the rigor of architectural design, it represents a structure that is part of people's daily life and visible to both those on the highway and those who are nearby is.
