New institution will advance research, engineering innovation and MINT workforce
El Paso, Texas (April 11, 2025) moon apartments, space robotics and exotic-material 3D printing are just a few of the technologies that are developed in the Advanced Manufacturing and Aerospace Center (AMAC), a new 80 million dollar research and educational institution that opened today at the University of Texas in El Paso.

Utep celebrated a significant newcomer on the campus, the state-of-the-art advanced production and the aerospace center. This building will be the home of research that will drive the discovery and drive innovations. Officials, students and Paydirt Pete started cutting on Friday morning in a ceremony.
The AMAC building was devoted to a ceremony for cutting tapes, in which more than 300 participated, including the mayor of El Paso, Renard Johnson, the judge of El Paso County, Ricardo Samaniego, the board of directors of the University of Texas, the board of Regents, Kevin P. Elfe and U System Chalor James B. Millik. Elife and Milliken should participate in person, but due to mechanical problems in your flight, they delivered their comments via live video stream.
“In the 29 laboratories housed in this building, our faculty and students will drive the discovery and drive innovations that contribute to our national defense and our economic growth,” said Utep President Heather Wilson. “We are grateful for the investment of UT system and the Board of Regents in the future of our students and our community.”
“The board of directors and the entire UT system are deeply committed to the success of UTEP,” said Eltife. “AMAC is only one of the many long -term investments that we made in Utep and El Paso, and we look forward to continuing this strong support.”
“Utep is a national leading provider of aerospace technology and advanced production,” said Milliken. “This new building is only a small part of the commitment of the UT system for the UTEP's excellence and the growth of El Paso's role both in the advanced manufacturing and in the aerospace industry.”
“Utep is a critical partner for providing the research innovation and the first -class engineering offers that are necessary to expand the economic boundaries of El Paso,” said Johnson. “The AMAC continues to solidify in El Pasos in the advanced production and excludes the region as an important aerospace center.”
The AMAC building will accommodate the Aerospace Center from UTEP and the WM Keck Center for 3D Innovation, both part of the UTEP College of Engineering.
The Keck Center contains one of the most comprehensive collections of Additive Manufacturing devices in an academic environment with more than 70 state-of-the-art 3D printers. The Keck Center has ongoing research and development projects with more than 100 industry partners and 10 federal authorities, including the research laboratories of the army and the Air Force, Norththrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin.
The Aerospace Center has carried out pioneer research with NASA, the Ministry of Defense, the US Ministry of Energy and other agencies in areas such as the drive, unmanned aircraft, spatial vehicle design and fusion of artificial intelligence, machine learning and science for advanced materials to accelerate discoveries for space, defense and industry.
Through a focus on study research, many UTEP students who are trained in the cheeky and air and space centers have undertaken successful careers in leading companies such as Boeing, Blue Origin and SpaceX.
The AMAC building was financed by the UT System Board of Regents and the construction began in autumn 2022 with a groundbreaking ceremony. The BHUTAN-style building was designed by the architecture company Treanor and built by Sundt-Bau in cooperation with the planning and construction department of UTEP. Fifty UTEP alumni were among the more than 1,000 people who were involved in the building.
