The Associated General Contractors of America at his annual convention Baldwin Group Build America Awardsis considered the “Oscars of the construction industry”. The general contractor of the project, Skanska, received the coveted prize and also received a Build Group America Award for the best construction project for construction management from 2024.

The Lynnwood -Link expansion opened on August 30 added 8.5 miles to the existing 1 line. The 3.1 billion dollar project comprises four stations, one in the city center of Lynnwood, one in Mountlake Terrace and two in coast as well as three new parking structures. The extension combined the Light Rail system, which King County had previously served with Snohomish County.

Skanska, a worldwide construction and development company from Stockholm, Sweden, was a critical partner for the success of the five-story parking garage of the Lynnwood City Center station Lynnwood Link Extension.

The Lynnwood City Center Station – including the parking garage and the square – was the first sound transit project that brought in a gold certificate for energy and environmental design (LEED) of the US Green Building Council.
Skanska was also responsible for the section Lynnwood Link Extension (L300) and provided 3.8 miles light rail guides, which connect the cities of coastal lines, Mountlake Terrace and Lynnwood north of Seattle in Northgate. Skanska also developed a temporary work platform over the highway and reduced the entire road closures that affect the I-5 car drivers.

Stacy & Witbeck/Kiewit/Hoffman L200 JV and Skanska constructors carried out civilian designs in the expansion. Mass Electric completed the systems, including the overhead catatar, traction performance, signal transmission and communication.

The infrastructure design company HNTB worked with Sound Transit to ensure that the design was consistent and corresponds to the standards of the transport authority and at the same time maintained the costs under control. The HNTB team selected the most effective structure for the region – concrete carriers that the company consistently used during most of the route.

PGH Wong was responsible for civilian building management and Northwest Transit Systems Partners for Systems Construction Management.
Ryan Clayton, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Skanska USA, said the Lynnwood Times when the Lynnwood Link Extension's Lynnwood Link said that Skanska came up with around 1,000 of union trading throughout the project of the project.
In addition to Skanska, who is the top overall winner, the L200 Lynnwood Link Extension Project from Sound Transit from Stacy Witbeck/Kiewit, a joint venture, has Baldwin Group Build America Award In the category for “Best New Highway & Transportation Project (100 million US dollars or more)”. Her joint venture delivered a five-mile transit segment to bring a new sound-transit-light rail service from Seattle to Snohomish County.

The Lynnwood Link Extension Project was a highlight of 15 years of committed work. The voters already approved the Link Light Rail System in 1996, which included Seatac Airport to the University of Washington in Seattle, with a Northgate extension dependent on the financing. The voters then approved the 15-year program of Sound Transit in 2008, which included the expansion from Lynnwood and East to Bellevue/Redmond, and approved the extension of the Light Rail to Everett and South to Tacoma in 2016 to 2044.
Due to Light Rail, Lynnwood adds more than 3,000 residential units to the city center. Active construction sites along the Lynnwood Link Extension will add over 10,000 new residential units within walking distance of the new rail system, the residents of which will use the transport system's investments. A total of 3,300 new life options were built on Sound Transit property, most of which are classified as affordable living space.

Housing Hope currently builds another 160 new affordable houses right next to the city center of Lynnwood, three quarters of which are used for larger families (three to four bedroom units), which is urgently needed for the region.
