{KXLG – Watertown, SD} Codington County Commissioners discussed and ultimately authorized the chairman to sign an engineering services contract with Banner Associates for warehouse building improvements at Tuesday morning's meeting.
Interim Highway Superintendent Lynn Solberg explained that next year's budget includes construction work on the rear portion of the building where the county's trucks are parked. The project aims to convert this area into a heated storage space through insulation, additional heating and the installation of a concrete floor.
Commissioner Randy Schweer discussed the current building with Solberg…
Currently the building has a gravel floor and no heating, making it a difficult environment for truck parking, especially after snow removal.
Commissioner Gabel moved to approve the contract, which Commissioner VanDusen seconded. Commissioners noted the improvements would be completed in two phases over the next two years.
The discussion highlighted the benefits of the upgrade, including improved working conditions and fewer problems related to ice buildup on trucks. The contract also calls for replacing the building's exterior cladding to ensure proper insulation.
The estimated cost of the project is $108,000 and the contract covers both phases of the improvements.
The motion was approved unanimously.
