The Mega Airport project in Singapore pushes forward orders with 3.7 billion US dollars

The Changi Airport Group has awarded two orders worth 4.8 billion p.

According to a company declaration, it will have an annual passenger capacity of 50 million in 50 million. Changi Airport is one of the world's busiest airfall centers and takes care of almost 68 million passengers last year.

A joint venture between China Communications Construction Co. and the Singapore unit Japan by Obayashi Corp. received the substructure contract of $ 3.8 billion, while the contract over $ 950 million for airside infrastructure works was incorporated by the local contractor HWA Seng Builder.

“The appointments of the contractors for the construction and the airfield works of the substructure bring us closer to the start of the construction of T5,” said Ong Chee Chiau, Managing Director of Changi East of the Changi Airport, Changi Airport in the explanation. The construction of T5 begins in the first half of 2025 and is expected to be completed in mid -2030, he said.

According to ONG, T5 is one of the most complex construction projects in Singapore. It is part of the greater development of Changi East, which includes the third runway at Changi Airport, freight logistics facilities and other supportive aviation and ground traffic infrastructure.

The substructure contract includes the construction of the foundation and the basement of the T5 main and earth transport center T5, including part of the tunnels that would connect it to the existing Terminal 2, the explanation says. The substructure comprises 140 hectares with a basement depth of up to 28 meters, which corresponds to approximately 5,200 Olympic swimming pools.

According to the explanation, the airside infrastructure works covers the development of remote aircraft stands that combine taxi tracks and additional support buildings.

“Together with our partners, we will ensure that the high standards that define Changi Airport can be replicated or even exceeded in the development work of T5,” said Ong.

Changi Airport was appointed worldwide best airport in London Aviation Consultancy Skytrax's World Airport Awards, with the title of Hamad International Airport from Qatar, which took the coveted award in 2024.
