An innovative demonstration system that is dedicated to continuous carbon mineralization is in operation in the Netherlands.
Paebbl, a carbon use company, built the groundbreaking demo in Rotterdam and started it in March. The Carbon Herald called the system “a large jump forward in the scaling of sustainable building materials”.
Carbon mineralization is a process that stores CO2 as a fixed mineral through a chemical reaction, as from the geological examination of the United States. It also prevents carbon prevents back into the atmosphere.
According to The Carbon Herald, the new demo plant uses a mineral called Olivin to absorb CO2 in additional cement -like materials. The continuous process offers a low -carbon alternative to conventional cement and at the same time meets the similar requirements of the large -scale construction.
Cement production is responsible for around 8% of global carbon pollution per CBS news. If the cement industry were a country, it would absorb the harmful carbon pollution behind the United States and China.
According to NASA data, human activities increased by 50% in less than two centuries. Many of these activities contain the burning of dirty energy sources such as coal, oil and natural gas that release the pollution of the heat finding.
Last year, a lot of progress was made worldwide worldwide. Researchers in Ohio developed a method for combining direct air carbon capture technologies with geothermal energy. In the meantime, scientists developed a unique membrane in Japan that captures CO2 and separates them from other gases.
The Carbon Herald not only helps the environment, but also reported that the new demo work from Paebbl helps the construction sector in other ways. The system produces materials on site, which helps rising costs and resources.
Paebbl Co-CEO and co-founder Andreas Saari said in a statement that the Pagebbl team believes that their mission is urgent for the planet.
“With this plant we are a step closer to high-performance materials and climate effect, the hand in hand-on a scale that is really important,” said Saari.
