The Bellevue College celebrated the beginning of its latest additional $ 54 million project for art and student innovations on Thursday, which is known as a W building and opened in winter 2027.
In addition to the studios for 2D design, photography, screen printing and painting, the W building serves as a hub for the art department, apartment workshops for sculptures, ceramics, metal and wood processing. A gallery on the second floor offers a platform for art for students, while state-of-the-art devices in the metal and woodworking workshops promise improved practical learning experience, the Bellevue College said in a press release.
The W building will also accommodate classrooms for digital media in the arts and support game design, visual art, film production and 3D modeling. A new maker space offers access to 3D printers, laser cutters, resin printers and a number of high-tech devices that can invent and work together, according to college. In addition, it will accommodate flexible classrooms and laboratory areas as well as a central atrium
“With a committed space for art and creative technology, we create an environment in which imagination is the border,” said David May, President of the Bellevue College. “This building reflects the developing needs of our students and our region, and I am grateful to everyone who becomes a reality.”
Christopher Butler, Capital Project and Design Manager on College, described the project as a significant improvement that will change the campus and adds that it was a long time ago.
“It will be a really nice, functional and collaborative building in the heart of the campus, which everyone can take part,” he said.
Participation in the B building at Bellevue College on Thursday are Jorge de la Torre, Vice President of Administrative Services on College; Mo Malakoutian, deputy mayor of the city of Bellevue; David May, President of College; Richard Leigh, Chairman of the College Board of Trustees; Chad White, chairman of the art department of the college; and Lisa Brock, President of the Bellevue College Foundation.
The W building will be a mixture of converted space and new buildings. Around 6,116 square meters of the Colleges are torn down on the north side, 23,038 square foot, which are reduced and converted to the structure. Another 33,580 square foot are built behind the R building.
The architect Mithun, based in Seattle, has developed the project and Comer General Contractors from Everett will build it.
The 56,618 square meter system will expand the entire building expression of the college to more than 1 million square foot on its 100 hectare campus. Solar marshes on the roof, contactless devices and other energy -efficient designs will be included.
