Start drinking water reservoir construction in Jurby

A 12-month project for the construction of a new drinking water reservoir of 2.9 million GBP for the north of the Isle of Man should get going.

The establishment of Manx Utilities (MU) is installed in addition to the ex-RAF parade floor by the A14 Ballamenagh Road in Jurby.

The service reservoir was developed to keep 165,000 gallons water and a pumping station.

The chairman of Mu, John Farannenburgh, said the program was “crucial for the expansion of Jurby and will secure water supply in the coming years”.

The building permit for the program was granted in December 2023, and the construction follows the installation of 2.4 km water leader from the Sandygate Crossroads to Jurby at the beginning of the year.

The service reservoir, a tank with 22.5 mx 15.5 m, which is partly buried at 20 feet (6 m) deep, resembles others all over the island.

A spokeswoman for the state supply company provider said that the location was “carefully selected to minimize the disorder of the residents”, and as soon as she “seamlessly fades into the landscape, covered with grass and seeds”.

The project, which was carried out by the contractor Paul Carey & Sons, would improve deliveries for existing houses, support growth in the region and ensure that the fire brigade was available, she said.
