An almost 30-meter building called Tor Alva, which means “White Tower” in Romansh, is today the highest 3D-printed building in Mulegn, a village with only 11 inhabitants, Reuters.
Instead of a traditional concrete formwork that creates tons of waste, Industry robots have used the concrete layer of layer to create 32 sculptured columns that rise over four floors. The design is similar to a decorated layer cake, an allusion to the history of the confectioners who once exported their skills throughout Europe.
The tower can be broken down elsewhere and rebuilt. Each piece combines like building blocks and eliminates the permanent waste, which is typically connected to construction projects.
For everyday people, this technology promises houses that cost less cost -intensive costs and have far less impact on the environment. The 3D printing process uses specially developed concrete, which quickly hardens and at the same time maintains sensitive structural details and possibly becomes more affordable and more accessible.
Two robots worked together to make this building possible. One drive concrete, while the other placed the reinforcement rings every 20 centimeters. This “reinforcement that grows” technique enables 3D printed concrete, structural loads to wear and open doors to neighborhoods that were built with this cleaner technology.
This building method reduces the pollution, which is typically generated during construction by eliminating traditional formwork and reducing material waste. Municipalities could see cleaner air and fewer construction deposits that disturb their daily life.
“I was fascinated by the interaction between digital design, traditional craftsmanship, cultural memory and artistic form,” Giovanni Netzer, theater director and founder of the theater foundation of the Origen Cultural Foundation, told ETH Zurich about Tor Alva. “The white tower is more than a technical triumph – it inspires the construction sector, promotes sustainable tourism and offers new cultural space.”
