The family of a worker who was killed in a grave collapse in Norwich remembers him as a loving grandfather who had a warm personality.
“Just so unexpected that it is not something you would expect,” said Danyel Kane.
She said her father, Michael Dirocco, went to work on Friday, but never came home. Now she clings to the memories that she shared together and remembers him for his warm personality.
“He was the life of the party. He would try to make everyone laugh,” said Kane.
She said he was someone who deeply loved his grandchildren.
“He would do everything for her, especially when it came to special events or just:” Hey, let us get ice, “said Kane.
According to Firefighters from Norwich, Dirocco worked on a project location where the sewage pipes collapsed with the ditch. He was submerged in the dirt with serious injuries and later died in the hospital.
The federal or health authority of the states or Osha examines what happened.
The security advisor at the workplace, chip Darius, can take up to six months, especially if death is involved.
“The Osha must be very careful and specific and deliberately how to collect this information and judge to determine whether there is a violation of the Osha standards,” said Darius.
Darius said that the fall in the ground was the largest safety threat in terms of trenches, and the cases of grave collapse rose nationwide.
He said that the Osha had founded a special focus to remind employers of trench safety standards.
“The Osha has a very simple rule. If it is five feet deep or more, stop.
For Kane, her family collected more than 1,200 US dollars via crowdfunding to support the expenses in connection with their loss. It is grateful for the support of the community.
“Anyone who has their good wishes, their prayers, their thoughts, which was extremely helpful for us,” she said.
The Norwich police said their investigation had not yet been completed.
On Friday, Mayor Peter Nystrom NBC Connecticut announced that the work done was not permitted and that it is probably not followed by the security procedures. We tried to reach him again, but we were not successful.
In the meantime, the family said that they are still working out funeral plans.
