The city of Solvang invites the residents, business owners and design enthusiasts to define the next era of the city's architectural and visual character as an updated character regulation, and the creation of a new design manual is underway.
The community is encouraged to take part in one or more of the upcoming meetings of the Design Review Committee on July 17th and August 14th. The first took place on Wednesday, which contained a program overview and a color palette discussion.

The meetings help to inform the final proposals for planning the planning commission and the city council, which later supports the city officials the strategic goals in 2024–2026 of the city council, to modernize outdated codes, to improve clarity and to preserve the character, defines the Solvang.
The highlights of the update include:
- Determination of clear, objective design standards for signage and building the aesthetics;
- Preservation of Solvang's Danish heritage with a historical color palette;
- It is easier to invest and improve in the built environment;
- Orientation of the legal requirements and the tightening of admission time plans.
The changes on the horizon include:
- Creation of a new design manual with a historical color palette, based on authentic Danish tones, as well as graphics, images and other materials with which owners and designers can interpret newly accepted objective design standards.
- An update of the city sign ordinance, which contains content -neutral, updated regulations for all sign types; Faster permits for compliant characters using a new procedure for administration permit; And a clarified guide of forbidden drawing types to protect solvangs appearance and pedestrian security.
