Chrysos Enviromix enables sustainable concrete without design delays

Since the construction industry intensifies its focus on sustainability, a frequent challenge was to reconcile lower carbon emissions with the need for a rapid project tax. With this problem, Chryso deals with its Enviromix®-area-one solution, which enables the use of low-carbon concrete to be used without affecting the early strength.

“The reduction of the CO2 footprint of buildings is no longer optional – it will be a priority for developers and specificists,” says Patrick Flannigan, Chryso GM Technical and Product Support Management Africa. “But conventional methods to reduce carbon, such as the replacement of normal portal cement with additional cement materials (SCMS), usually slow the early strength development.”

This compromise can cause costly delays on site, since slower force values means formation and the scaffolding remains longer. It also limits the Turnaround time in finished production, with production speed for profitability is of crucial importance.

Chrysos Enviromix® area effectively dissolves this challenge. Developed in order to support concrete mixes with a high SCM content -such as flight ash or ground granulated blanulated blanks -, Enviromix® ensures that early strength goals are still reliably achieved. This enables a faster funeral, removal of the formwork and the overall project dynamics without affecting the sustainability goals.

“The economic effects of delayed early strength are significant,” explains Flannigan. “Regardless of whether it is a slowdown of a blueprint or the reduction in completion that affects profitability. Enviromix® gives the contractors and manufacturers the opportunity to keep their deadlines while using more environmentally friendly materials.”

Chysos with low-carbon solutions from Chryso, which were supported by a strong global track record, were solely responsible for avoiding 15 million tons of CO₂ emissions in 2023. The company's laboratories also offer tailor -made formulations that are tailored to the variability of SCMS from the region to ensure consistent results.

“With Enviromix, sustainable concrete no longer means compromise to productivity or quality,” says Flannigan. “It is an important step towards greener construction – practical, reliable and economically profitable.”
