Iberdrola and Schwenk Zement have signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for the output of the 315 MW Windanker offshore wind farm in Germany.
During the contract period, 1,500 GWh will be delivered to Schwenk from the offshore wind farm currently under construction in the Baltic Sea.
With the supply from the wind anchor, the building materials manufacturer can cover around 20 percent of its electricity needs from certified alternative sources, based on current electricity needs, said Iberdrola.
“Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in our ongoing efforts to reduce specific electricity demand, improve thermal energy efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions. “Another important component is the gradual increase in the proportion of green electricity at SCHWENK through our own photovoltaic projects,” added Thomas SpannaglCEO of Schwenk Building Materials Group.
The Windanker offshore wind farm is located approximately 38 kilometers northeast of the German island of Rügen and covers an area of approximately 17.9 square kilometers.
The project includes 21 15 MW wind turbines from Siemens Gamesa, which will be installed on monopiles provided by the Navantia-Windar consortium.
Recently, Japanese company Kansai Electric Power (Kansai) signed a power purchase agreement with Iberdrola to purchase a 49 percent stake in the 315 MW wind farm.
Windanker is expected to go online in 2026.
