The Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP) has signed agreements with the ACWA Power and Gulf Investment Corporation of Saudi Arabia for the second and third phase expansion of the al-Zour north power plant.

The contracts include the design, financing, the construction, operation, maintenance and possible transmission of an integrated system that combines the generation of electricity with water altm water.
The al-Zour North project is expected to generate 2.7 GW electric production and 120 million gallons daily water production through advanced combined cycle technology.
The general director of Kapp, Asmaa al-Mousa, explained that the expansion project, which is expected to take three years, is financed by investors and not state funds.
The understate secretary of electricity, water and renewable energy, Adel al-Zamel, said that Kuwait is expecting a significant improvement in his electricity services with the upcoming introduction of several major projects, including cooperation with China.
The government has implemented planned power cuts in certain areas since 2024 to manage demand.
