Invited public comment on the Dixon Connector Trail project in Fredericksburg

The blue and red lines are two potential orientations that are considered for a path between Caroline Street and Dixon Park in Fredericksburg.

The Virginia Ministry of Transport will hold a public hearing on September 30th to build a way to connect Dixon Park in Fredericksburg with a dead end at the eastern end of Caroline Street.

The project builds an approximately 10 foot wide, paved path, a bridge over a hazel run, support walls and pedestrian/bicycle crossings under a limited access road (Route 3/Blue and Gray Parkway). Two potential orientations between Caroline and Dixon Park are considered.

As part of the project, bicycle systems on the street on Caroline would be built between the end of the paved path on the sack casting and the Fredericksburg train station.

Between the dead end and the Dixon Street has the proposed “Sharrow” guide markings, which indicates that the vehicle and bicycle traffic should share the road. The project will also build dedicated bicycle traces between the streets Dixon and Frederick.

Fredericksburg submitted an application to finance the project via the Virginia Smart Scale Financing Program.

The public hearing on September 30th takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Walker-Grant Center, 210 Ferdinand St., Fredericksburg, VA 22401.

The public can stop by during the meeting to check advertisements and plans and to discuss questions with the employees of VDOT and Fredericksburg.

The public can display meetings on the project page and submit comments with an online survey. Comments on the project are accepted at the hearing and then until October 10th.

Comments can be sent to an e -mail by e -mail [email protected]. Please refer to the E -Mail Support “Dixon Park Connector Trail”. You can also be sent to Mr. Byrd Holloway, Vdot Senior Project Manager, 87 Deacon Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22405.

Interstate 95 ramp closure

The construction work to improve the Interstate 95 exchange at exit 126 (Spotsylvania) will close an off ramp overnight this week, said Vdot.

The i-95-off ramp to the north to Route 1 towards the south (exit 126b) will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. It will be reopened early Friday.

The I-95 car drivers to the north should use the most convenient alternative exchange either from exit 118 (Thornburg) or exit 130 (Route 3).

The 42 million dollar project to improve the range of outlet 126 will exchange:

  • Add an I-95 auxiliary Lane near the exit 126
  • Expand Route 1 to add a second left base to the i-95 to the north and south
  • Expand the I-95 ramps at the intersection
  • Build two noise barriers along the I-95 south towards the south

The construction will be completed in September 2027.

The public can check 511virginia for updates of this closure.

Caroline Bridge project

With progressive construction work to improve the condition of the Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard) to the north via the Mattaponi River in Caroline County to the north, drivers should be aware of a traffic redirection next week, said Vdot.

The weather permits, Route 207 to the north is closed at the bridge on September 30th to work the crews on the construction of the bridge.

During the closure, the traffic to the north is diverted to cross the Mattaponi with the Route 207 towards the south, with a travel track open in every direction. Route 207 to the north is closed until the project is completed.

The speed limit on Route 207 in the work zone was temporarily reduced from 60 miles per hour to 45 miles per hour.

Route 207 to the north will be opened again in April.

An average of 12,000 vehicles a day on a trip 207.

Message boards are published to inform the drivers about the upcoming closure and distraction.

The 9.6 million dollar project is financed by the “State of Good Repair” program from Virginia. The crews replace the structure of the existing bridge, including steel plate carriers, the concrete deck, the bridge railing and the bridge. The project also repairs the substructure of the bridge.

The project entrepreneur is Kokosen Construction Co. Inc.
