NIBS publishes the report for a BIM transport library (Central Building Information Modeling) (CBTL)

WASHINGTONPresent September 26, 2025 / Prnewswire/ – The National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS), in conjunction with the Federal Highway Administration, announced the publication of the report for a Central Building Information Modeling (BIM) Transport Library (CBTL) (CBTL), a pioneering roadmap for creating national, interoperable BIM standards via highways, Bridges and Transit infrastructure.

The report was developed by cooperation with industry leaders, federal and state authorities as well as research partners and specifies a framework for the modernization of the design, construction work and management of transport assets. The CBTL has the potential to combine fragmented digital practices into a single, relevant resource, reduce the life cycle costs, to optimize the project tax and to strengthen resistance to natural and artificial threats.

“America's global competitiveness depends on a transport network that was built for the future,” said George Guszcza, President and CEO of NIBS. “By complying with the recommendations in this report, the nation can use digital innovations to provide safe, more intelligent and stronger infrastructure for every community.”

The most important results in implementing the recommendations from the report are:

  • Lower long-term maintenance and operating costs.
  • Improved resilience through predictive assets.
  • Accelerated introduction of digital design and construction practices.
  • Greater economic opportunities through more efficient project provision.

NIBS, which is chartered by the congress, is uniquely positioned to gather the government, industry and the public to form standards, protect American life, strengthen competitiveness and ensure that taxpayers achieve a maximum. You can find more information about this report here.

About the National Institute for Building Sciences

Created by a congress act in 1974 in order to be the relevant source of knowledge and recommendations of the nation to the effects and improvement of the built environment for the American people. At the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS), we combine research, politics and practical application to promote innovations in the built environment. Our mission is to create a safer, more resistant and technologically advanced infrastructure that serves American communities and strengthens the future of our nation.

From the design of the industrial standards to the management of the digital transformation, we enable construction professionals, political decision -makers and owners to make well -founded decisions that improve sustainability, efficiency and resilience. We limit experts across sectors to develop solutions that ensure that the construction, infrastructure and disaster prevention keep pace.

The establishment of American innovation is not just our slogan – it is our commitment. We promote the cooperation between government, industry and science in order to drive forward strategies for reliable communities. Because we don't just build structures at NIBs, we build solutions.
