Carolina Beach's state-approved beach care project is scheduled to begin this weekend.
Sand placement is expected to begin Saturday, according to a news release from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The project, which involves distributing about 800,000 cubic meters of sand along the city's seafront, is expected to last about four to five weeks, depending on weather conditions.
To see which sections of the beach are closed or open during construction of the Coastal Storm Risk Management Project, residents can check the sand placement tracker.
The project contractor has provided equipment near the vehicle access to Freeman Park beach and the North Pier parking lot. A pipe will be laid from the Carolina Beach Inlet to the beach adjacent to the north pier, where sand distribution will begin and further pumping will continue south.
After the contractor pumps sand from the Carolina Beach Inlet, the dredge pipe is moved to the offshore landing site, where sand is pumped from an oceanfront rental well and distributed along the remaining portions of the beach.
Residents are reminded to stay away from fenced construction areas and the pipeline, only cross the pipeline at designated sand ramp intersections, maintain a safe distance from heavy equipment and the pipe outlet area, and follow all posted signage and contractor instructions.
