Concrete bear sculpture weighing 45kg stolen from British Columbia porch

Police are searching after a large concrete sculpture of a bear weighing about 100 pounds was stolen from the porch of a Port Coquitlam home.

Mounties say the sculpture's owner called police on Jan. 11 to report the theft from their home.

Police said they conducted an extensive search of the area in the Metro Vancouver community but did not find the bear or any other suspects.

The missing sculpture is a dark gray bear standing upright on its hind legs with its mouth wide open as if it were roaring.

Police described the theft as “brazen” and are calling for the “unique” statue to be safely returned to its owners.

Const. John Graham of the Coquitlam RCMP says the sculpture “has significant sentimental value” as it symbolizes the owners' “respect and admiration” for the local bear population.
