New hires bring extensive experience in commercial, healthcare and large vertical projects as the company expands market share in an improving economic climate

Shawmut welcomed Kasia Mickowska, a 23-year industry veteran, as project manager; Thomas Howardwho has worked as a senior MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) manager in the new construction and renovation market for 40 years; and promoted Brian Toasta specialist in high-rise construction, to senior manager of construction operations. Their additions to the major projects division are a key element of the company's aggressive strategy to expand its market share in major projects. Shawmut first began building this department in 2022 Charlie Avolio took over the management of large projects and brought with him almost four decades of experience New York City Construction. During this time, Shawmut continued to expand its preconstruction team and made key hires to support and strengthen the department.

In his new role as Senior Director of Construction Operations, Troast will be responsible for leading teams in preparing and executing project delivery to the highest standards, including technical skills, at every stage of work. He will ensure the technical growth of the team and nurture the next generation of builders. Troast started as a senior project manager at Shawmut a year ago and has more than 20 years of industry experience working on iconic projects around the world New York City including the construction of the base building at One Vanderbilt and One World Trade Center and the repositioning of 550 Madison Avenue. Troast supports local organizations such as All Souls NYC Friday Soup Kitchen, IronMatt, The Charlie Landers Foundation and The CAM Foundation. He was named an ENR New York Top Young Professional and recognized for his acumen and leadership in the construction industry.

Mickowska comes to Shawmut from Tishman, where she led construction of high-rise buildings and major healthcare projects, including for NYU Langone Health, HSS and NYC Health + Hospitals. As Project Manager, she oversees the entire office and field teams of her projects and acts as the key liaison between the owners and clients to ensure their goals and vision are achieved. Mickowska is an active member of the American Society for Health Care Engineering (ASHE), the Association of Medical Facility Professional (AMFP), the Women's Builder Council (WBC), NYC Builds Bio+, and the US Green Building Council. She is also a member of the Kosciuszko Foundation, the American-Scandinavian Foundation, and the Catskill Strategic Planning Advisory Group (through DEC).

With his extensive knowledge of engineering and construction, Howard leads MEP budgeting efforts as senior MEP manager, bringing best practices to pre-construction planning and project execution. Its portfolio includes healthcare and educational institutions. Previously, he worked on NYU Langone Health's campus transformation and projects for One Brooklyn Health, Northwell Health, Mount Sinaiand Memorial Sloan Kettering.

The expanded major projects department works closely with Shawmut's preconstruction team, which includes recently added estimators Vimalkumar Patelsenior estimators Bobby Burgess And Ravi Pateland chief estimator Kenneth Perry.

Shawmut's recent projects include: St. John's University new, newly established St. Vincent Health Sciences Center; Life science and academic projects Columbia University and New York Presbyterian; Taconic Partners' Life Sciences Center at Hudson Research Center; Barclays Center renovation; Time and Tide at 360 Park Avenue South; and the current renovation of the New York Public Library Aguilar branch.
