The American Chemical Society (ACS) has started to accept nominations for those 2026 Green Chemistry Challenge Awards. The awards should promote the ecological and economic advantages of the development and use of new green chemistry. You recognize new technologies for green chemistry that reduce or eliminate the use of dangerous substances, consume less energy and water and improve the sustainability of products and at the same time demonstrate economic advantages. Although the awards were set up in 1996 by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), ACS is now carrying out the program. The ten price categories for 2026 contain:
- Focus area 1: Green synthetic path in the synthesis of medicinal products;
- Focus area 2: Green synthetic path in the production of agrochemicals;
- Focus area 3: Green synthetic path in the production of special chemicals;
- Focus area 4: Product, chemical and process design for circularity or degradation;
- Focus area 5: Design and manufacture of materials for energy applications;
- Focus range 6: Efficient and effective valorization of biomass;
- Focus area 7: Design of safe chemicals;
- Small businesses (for a technology in one of the seven focus areas developed by a small company) (a small company for the purpose of this award, must have annual sales of less than 40 million US dollars in the USA, including all domestic and foreign sales of the company, its subsidiaries and its parent company);
- Climate change (for a technology in one of the seven focus areas that can prevent or reduce greenhouse gas emissions); And
- Academic award (basic research that enable real solutions) under one of the seven focus areas.
In order to receive a award ceremony, a nominated technology must meet the scope of the Green Chemistry Challenge Awards program by fulfilling the following criteria:
- It has to be a Green chemistry Technology with an important chemical component;
- It must contain Source reduction;
- His sponsor must be one legitimate unit (Companies, individuals, academic institutions (including state and stammering universities), non -profit and non -profit organizations as well as their representatives);
- It must have a significant milestone in its development in the past five years;
- It must have a significant US component; And
- At least it has to fit in harmony One of the seven focus areas of the program.
