The most famous blob of the 90s, next to the Volkswagen Beetle, could soon be revived in a back -up form. A LEGO model of the Apple IMAC G3 stands for consideration and fan votes on the LEGO Ideas website, which is fighting the chance to become an officially licensed and commercially published LEGO model.
The LEGO IMAC is a 700-part model of the original IMAC G3, which was published in 1998. Completely with custom stickers to replicate the Mac OS splash screen and the IMAC logo, the model is completed in the iconic bondi blue color of the original computer. On the inside of the transparent shell there is a cathode beam tube and a circuit board with radiators and wires, which are digitally designed with only real LEGO elements.
The “Lego Ideas” website from LEGO offers fan designers the opportunity to take their LEGO models for the exam in order to be present in real LEGO products. Designs that receive 10,000 votes from Site users are entered in official reviews in which the designers and lawyers of Lego determine which models the functions and brand of LEGO best fit. Over 150 designs meet this benchmark every year, with Lego holding three vocal areas every year, and every year only six models are selected for production.
The designer of the LEGO IMAC G3, Fuma Teraai, is no stranger to the LEGO ideas. Six earlier models have reached the 10,000 vote mark, with Terai's model of the 80s film GremlinsMascot Gizmo, which was recently transformed into an official LEGO set.
Almost half of the Lego ideas published so far, which are published on licensed IP, and Terai's iMac G3 design, which only already existing Lego elements, has a fair chance of getting far in the vote. Even if it can achieve 10,000 votes and received the approval of the Lego's legal team, Apple would still have to be ready to play the ball with the idea, which would historically be a long shot.
Those who one day want to see a LEGO IMAC G3 on their desk should turn to the LEGO Ideas website and vote here for the model. The project, which is over 6,000 votes at the time of the letter, still has 319 days to reach its 10,000 voting goal, a milestone that will with quite a bit widespread in the technical corners of the web.
