Managing director Carrie Hurihanganui took over Markets with Madison behind the project in November, explaining how it would increase capacity and ease transit for international and domestic passengers.
However, the project is not without controversy – airlines including Air New Zealand and Qantas have criticized the costs, which they say have not significantly increased capacity and therefore revenue for their companies.
In this episode, take a look behind the big project Downer's Hawkins is building.
The cursed project
The New Zealand International Convention Centre, owned by SkyCity, should be open by now and welcoming thousands of wealthy visitors to Auckland.
But project delays, cost overruns and a devastating fire in 2019 (in that order) left Fletcher Building still working towards completion.
SkyCity chairman Julian Cook said: “It is no secret that there have been significant problems for Fletchers on this site in the past and it is also no secret that this has cost us a lot of money Markets with Madison.
Cook and his new CEO, Jason Wallbridge, gave in Markets with Madison the first look at the huge development in central Auckland at the end of last year.
SkyCity is expected to open by the end of this year.
Fletcher's scapegoat
Markets with Madison discussed the state of the constructor with Ross Taylor before he left, including how it drove up the cost of building the NZICC for SkyCity.
In the interview he explains what could solve the industry's critical problems.
