Denver – Safety should be treated as an enterprising, not as a “task” that is delegated to the security department, Brian Fielkow informed the hosts of the podcast “on the safe side” during a live recording on Monday.
The Executive Vice President of Risk Sea of Acrisure was a guest speaker in the podcast, which was organized by Security+Health Associate editor Barry Bottino, Kevin Druley and Alan Ferguson. The episode was recorded in front of a live audience at the NSC Safety Congress & Expo 2025. Fielkow will deliver the keynote of the tour at 10 a.m. Mountain Time on Tuesday.
“As the leader, it is what you celebrate and what you tolerate that creates a business -minded understanding that security is a attitude to life,” said Fielkow. “It is not a priority – it is a central value. It is who we are. It is deeply rooted who we are. It starts with the leadership and must belong to every employee in the organization.”
He added that organizations:
- Make it clear that operations are responsible for the execution of security.
- Aligning payment and incentives with the financial and security -relevant service.
- Consistently schools – and ensure 100% participation in the necessary employees.
- Remove silos with integrated meetings.
- Make sure that your process is understandable to the intended audience.
When asked how employers can contribute to closing the gap between the security of the safety of the front line and leading leaders, Fielkow suggested:
- Perform Walkarounds and listening sessions.
- Confirm input and suggestions, even if you cannot be reacted to.
- Encourage psychological security so that employees can speak without fear.
- Perform a “GAP” survey. If you want to learn more about the perception of the front, you have to ask yourself, he said.
Fielkow added that a properly structured security committee can help close the gap.
“The way to close the gap is to appear with empathy,” he said, “and the best way to appear with empathy is to ensure that they see the eyes of the people who are responsible for the execution of security, the people with their hands on the lever and the bike.”
