City of Emporia approaches the completion of the project of the most important waterline improvements

Emporia, Kan. (Wibw) – The city of Emporia announced that the project of 24th Avenue and the Prairie Street Waterline improvement project was significantly completed.

According to a press release from the city of Emporia, the intersection of 18th Avenue and Prairie Street was officially reopened on Friday, June 20 and signaled the final construction phases.

The newly installed water networks are now in operation together with all affected roads. The crews currently complete the minor sidewalk and curb repairs, the cleaning up of locations and sowing.

The construction of the project began in the week of June 3, 2024 under the direction of public work and engineering departments of the city. Last year, the project installed around 12,600 linear foot with new 6-inch water through 24-inch water networks and 33 new service lines and adjustments.

The city states that this is one of the most important water infrastructure projects in recent years.

This investment in Emporia's infrastructure is intended to improve the performance, reliability and capacity of the city's water system. Due to the relief of stress in the aging of lines, the project aims to reduce the frequency of main water breaks and to ensure the residents and companies in the region more consistent services.
