La Crosse (WKBT) – The construction is underway with an affordable housing estate of 23 million US dollars, which provides 70 accessible apartments for La Crosse residents, with half of which are specially intended for people with disabilities.

Haven on Main represents a common effort between Haven for Special People, CouleCap and Gerrard Corporation in order to satisfy the need of the community for accessible, independent life options.

The development is contained 70 units, all of which are designed, taking into account accessibility.

Thirty -five apartments are especially rented out to people with disabilities, while the remaining units are available to other qualifying residents in an integrative environment.

“Haven on Main will offer a really independent life. People with disabilities can live in their own apartment in an integrative environment,” said Heitgti Brown, Executive Director of CouleCap.

The project has personal importance for the mayor of La Crosse, Shaundel Washington Spivey, who emphasized how important it is to create independent life opportunities for people with special needs.

“The port on Main is a little personal for me, I have a nephew and my sister with special needs and I always talk about the fact that he can live independently and give him resources, and they are projects like this who can make this possible,” said Washington-Spivey.

The building will contain sustainable energy characteristics, whereby solar energy provides electricity for the entire development. This system for renewable energies enables all supply companies to include the rent of the residents.
