Construction company achieves CO2 neutral status after significantly reducing emissions

Winvic Construction has been certified as a carbon neutral company, marking a milestone in its sustainability journey.

The contractor, which delivers private and public building and civil engineering projects across the UK, has achieved Net Carbon Zero certification through the Achilles Climate Impact Programme, verified to ISO 14064 Part 3.

Winvic says the certification recognizes a 71% reduction in its overall carbon footprint, demonstrating significant progress towards its long-term sustainability goals.

Since beginning its carbon reduction journey 13 years ago, Winvic has invested in renewable energy, battery backup systems, alternative fuels and waste reduction initiatives, while launching its Green Supply Chain Forum to engage partners on decarbonization.

In 2020, the company launched a formal sustainability strategy based on the pillars of people, innovation, planet and community. This framework supports seven of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and underpins Winvic's goal to achieve Net Zero.

As part of its commitment to transparency, Winvic has been monitoring and reporting on its greenhouse gas emissions since 2012 and has received annual certification under the Achilles Carbon Reduce Program in accordance with ISO 14064-1 since 2022.

The company is also a key contributor to national decarbonization efforts, working with the UK Green Building Council on several initiatives including the Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard and the Advancing Net Zero Workstream.

Arun Thaneja, technical services and sustainability director at Winvic, said: “We want to raise the bar on delivering sustainable buildings and infrastructure for our customers, while leaving a lasting social, environmental and economic legacy. Our newly achieved carbon neutral status is testament to this ambition and the progress we have made in decarbonising our operations.”

“We are incredibly proud to have received the certification and we continue our carbon reduction journey, supporting and encouraging our GSC partners and customers on their own journey towards a net zero future.”

Rob Cook, managing director of civil construction and infrastructure at Winvic, said: “Achieving carbon neutral status reinforces our responsibility as industry leaders to set the standard for sustainable construction and infrastructure delivery. This certification and milestone in our journey to Net Zero is not only important for Winvic, but also enables us to support our customers, including National Highways and other partners across the board public sector who place great emphasis on reducing environmental impact and achieving Net Zero targets.” across their programs.

“It’s a milestone we’re proud of, but it’s also a platform to go further and work with our customers, partners and supply chain to deliver low-carbon solutions that make a real and lasting difference.”

To date, Winvic has implemented 27 net zero carbon projects with a total of 96 individual plants, with another seven currently underway.
