Fire breaks near the Orpheum Theater in downtown Wichita

Wichita, Kan. (Kwch) – A building fire in the city center of Wichita is now under control. The crews were called to the second and Broadway on Thursday at 7:36 p.m. after flames could be shot out of the area.

Those who saw the massive flames feared that they would come from the Orpheum Theater. Rauch was visible on Thursday evening to Equity Bank ball park.

“My heart fell into my stomach,” said Stacee Olden, the managing director of the Orpheum.

The crews arrived at the scene of the crime to find a heavy fire from stacked roofing material in the Second Street near the orpheum marquee.

“The Orpheum is 102 years old and prepares for historical restoration,” said Olden. “I was very scared.”

The fire was in building materials that were next to a crane that was crouched on the roof of the AT&T building.

While there was some smoke on the windows, the building was intact. Firefighters said that if the fire had not reported in the middle of the night or possibly started, damage to the building could have been much worse.

“A few more minutes, we could have had an extensive fire in the lobby of the Orpheum Theater, they have a nice lobby there that would have been bad,” said Gordon, deputy battalion boss.

A special call for rescue 2 was made to look for dangerous material concerns that affect the crane and the burning roof materials. Rescue 2 also provided foam foam to delete the stacked material.

WPD was requested on the basis of a citizen who disabled the operation, according to the fire brigade. Police chief Sullivan replied to command opost and provided support from the officials.

Nobody was injured in the fire.

The fire brigade said that the surveillance video from the Orpheum and the AT&T building could possibly be available. The cause of the fire is still being examined.
