Hackaday Podcast Episode 303: The Cheap Yellow Display, Self-Driving Under $1,000, and No Remix of This Benchy

As the holiday party season fades from our memories and we get into the swing of the New Year, Elliot Williams is joined by Jenny List on the Hackaday podcast to provide an overview of what's cool in the world of Hackaday. Who read the fine print in the news this week and noticed that Benchy has a non-commercial license? As the takedown notices for Benchy derivatives make the rounds, we reflect on the different interpretations of open source and remind listeners to be mindful when deciding how to publish their work.

The week has given us enough hacks to get our teeth into, with Elliot going down the rabbit hole of switch-debounce and Jenny waxing lyrical about a crystal oscillator. The possibility of giving a 30-year-old Volvo autonomous driving capability also caught our attention, as did the fascinating Cheap Yellow Display, an ESP32 module that has (almost) everything. Meanwhile, in the quick hacks, we were impressed by a chess engine written for a processor architecture implemented entirely in regular expressions, as well as the power of sending TOSLINK across commercial fiber networks across London. Enjoy the episode and see you again next week!
