It's hard to find anything more frustrating than workplace bureaucracy that makes absolutely no sense and cannot be changed.
How would you deal with your workplace making strange requests to you and ONLY you? And possibly because of your gender?
A guy recently took to Reddit to share his strange workplace dynamics.
Here are the details.
My employer requires that a reading board be put up every Tuesday.
Now, out of five employees, I was the only man in my position for about a year.
This is an unusual relationship.
To remove the reading board I have to climb a ladder in different weather conditions.
No problem, wear a raincoat. This ladder broke at least four times during my use.
If this ladder breaks, I'll either have to patch it up with whatever nuts and bolts I can find, or use another ladder that's literally held together with electrical tape and a key ring.
This must be an OSHA violation.
Since I was the only man working in my position, I was the only employee who could remove the reading board.
When I asked for a Tuesday off, it was frowned upon, and they often brought a man from another department to get the reader list.
They literally wouldn't allow women to do that.
Hmm, who are “they”?
I honestly don't mind taking the board off.
Even in the rain.
Every week for the past two years.
But when they give me dangerous equipment to work with and I get caught on vacation, it becomes frustrating.
He probably should have started with that fact. Let's see what the good community of Reddit had to say.
Most people immediately jumped in to help.
Some pointed out the obvious.
One person was very angry on behalf of the poster.
Others reiterated OSHA's involvement.
And one woman actually went on a tirade.
There are a lot of “rules for you, not me” in this workplace.
