Rainy weather Saturday delayed construction in some parts of coastal California, including north of San Luis Obispo on Highway 1.
In a post Saturday evening, Caltrans District 5 alerted travelers that Highway 1 would be closed for 24 hours at Rocky Creek Road, just 12 miles south of Carmel.
Caltrans officials tell KSBY construction was originally scheduled for Friday evening but was postponed due to wet conditions.
Crews worked overnight to install nine massive concrete beams near the Regent's Slide area.
Two cranes were reportedly set up in the area to help lift the concrete beams into place.
Shortly before 12:30 p.m. Sunday, officials reported that the last of the nine beams had been installed, triggering the “choreography that brought trucks, trailers and heavy machinery across a single lane into Rocky Creek.” [to happen] vice versa.”
According to Caltrans, the highway is scheduled to reopen Sunday at 10 p.m.
