American design studio Robert AM Stern Architects has just completed the design for the LEED v4 Gold-rated Schoenecker Center. It is a learning facility that is part of the University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul, Minnesota and was designed in collaboration with BWRR Architects and McGough Construction. The building is intended to promote close collaboration between humanities and engineering students.
Melissa DelVecchio, partner at RAMSA, speaks about the design project and notes, “The Schoenecker Center is technically complex because it connects different departments. Engineers smashing things next to an event hall or a recording studio requires careful design and engineering to ensure a department functions.” Needs do not hinder others' experience of the building. It is a complex design puzzle motivated by the belief that all of these disciplines can – and should – influence one another.”
