Counterpoint

The US Lumber Coalition, a business group of soft wood producers, is an aggressive opponent of imports of subsidized Canadian wood and therefore a supporter of tariffs.

“The US wood coalition welcomes the strong commitment of the Trump government for the enforcement of the US trade laws against Canadian unfair trade behavior, which kills US jobs through the suppression of US wood production and the continued production capacity of the US production,” said Zoltan van Heinn, US coalitions -Executive Director, “the trade cases have to stay as long as Canada and dumping and divisions coupling director”. The executive director also explained: “If Canada does not like the import duties, they simply stop doing unfair trade and no longer violate our trade laws. It is not complicated.”

Our industry supports the initiative of its administration to increase the home procurement of wood in order to reduce the dependence on foreign imports by strengthening the US wood industry. However, it is important to recognize that reaching this goal will take time and require considerable investments in both the infrastructure and in sustainable forest management. While species such as southern yellow jaws are a valuable resource in Germany, they do not serve as a direct replacement for the many applications in which Canadian spruce K-FIR (SPF) are preferred.

Our industry recognizes the importance of the greater political goals that are pursued by their administration. However, we respectfully ask you to weigh the long -term effects Tariff about the affordability of wood and building materials and the overall housing sector. Until the domestic wood production is scaled to meet the specific requirements of the US hardware store, the Canadian SPF remains an essential part of the supply chain of building materials. Therefore, it is critical at a time when the inputs for residential construction continue to increase that the administration will not be taken any further measures that will have a negative impact on our common goal of improving the affordability of apartments.

NLBMDA has been a voice of the wood and building materials industry in Washington for over 100 years. Our members have advanced guidelines that expand the economy, increase the domestic workers and reduce the regulatory obstacles that historically hinder the growth of the small company. According to this famous tradition, NLBMDA is committed to working with you and your administration to identify solutions that enable our industry and the economy as a whole.

Sincere,
