Mario Cucinella's amphitheater blooms in San Servolo, Venice
During the Green Design Days 2025, Mario Cucinella Architects (MCA) Reveals a flower in San Servolo, a 3D -printed amphitheater on the San Servolo Island in Venice. The open-air structure was developed as a space for dialogue, performance and community and blooms like a flower and melts the poetic shape with a construction process with a low influence. Created in cooperation with local innovators and is based with sustainable, Limaiger -based, based Modules The amphitheater is produced directly on the island and is a symbol for ecological and cultural synergies that are summarized with it Biennale of the Venice Architecture of the Year. “Thanks to the 3D printing and the use of sustainable materials, the structure integrates into the landscape with an organic shape that emerges from the ground like a flower.” shares the architect. “It is not just a stage space, but a place for the meeting and dialogue, in which tradition and innovation merge in harmony with the environment.”

750 blocks with a dry assembly stick are the structure
The project is based on a common vision between architect Mario Cucinella and San Servolo SRL, the stock corporation that manages the island. The aim is to create students, residents and visitors an integrative, reversible structure. The amphitheater is presented against the cinematic background of San Lazzaro Degli Armeni and is designed as an architectural gesture that grows from the earth and belongs to the lagoon.
Each module was created from approx. 750 dry blocks over 62 unique types and 3D is printed from a certified sustainable material, which is mainly made of natural lime. A printer on site ran for almost 200 hours, reduced the transport emissions and enabled precisely and high -quality production. The structure was built using a dry assembly method, which makes it easy to take apart and reuse. Its modular design uses an interlocking piece, which gives the amphitheater strength and a uniform appearance.
