Boston-Jll announced that the McKinsey office in Boston Leed Platinum and Fitwel 1-star certificate has received two of the world's leading standards that recognize sustainable building practices that are designed to optimize environmental management and support health.
JLL Project and Development Services (PDS) helped McKinsey's vision in Winthrop Center, the world's largest passive house building building.
Leed (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), developed by the US Green Building Council (USGBC), is the most frequently used green building rating system in the world and an international symbol for excellence. With 82 points, McKinsey's office in Boston is the highest project for Leed Platinum Commercial Interiors in Massachusetts, the second highest number of points in the USA and the seventh highest number of points in the world.
The energy efficiency strategies were developed by JLL sustainability advice and implemented by McKinsey and the design team. JLL sustainability advice evaluates that these strategies have contributed to the fact that the office is designed by 39.4% more energy -efficient than a standard office project of the same size and a reduced overall water use of the interior within the office.
Many of the functions contained in the state -of -the -art space have been specially implemented in order to advance McKinsey's commitment to ecological sustainability. The Wintrop Center developed by Millennium Partners received its formal passive house designation-the gold standard for performance-related energy certification worldwide in 2023. This performance is dramatically improved by the meticulously designed airtight outer shell of the building, which enables ventilation systems for the latest energy recovery and architectural innovations, which provide 30-50% more fresh air circulation and optimized natural light penetration throughout the space all.
Fitwel is the world's leading, healthy building certification system that is used worldwide to ensure that buildings are designed and operated in order to positively influence people's health, productivity and satisfaction. This certification shows McKinsey's commitment to improving well -being at work.
The WINTHROP Center was referred to as “Walkers Paradise” and as “driver paradise” and offers excellent connectivity with various amenities through walking or public transit. In addition to the location, the building enabled the design team to implement an open floor plan for McKinsey's office so that the natural light could flow throughout the room. Everything about the office design prioritizes the holistic health of people in the room.
“The human office design prioritizes the complete well -being, the comfort and productivity of the employees and recognize that the physical field of work is directly with job satisfaction and performance in work control,” said Rex Hamre, Managing Director, Sustainability Lead, Project and Development Services, JLL. “By creating an environment that is committed to various work styles, promotes cooperation and promotes physical, mental and social health, companies improve the commitment of employees, creativity and general effectiveness in the workplace.”
The innovative area included the sustainability advice team in the PDS Business by JLL and OTJ Architects, VVA Project & Cost Manager, WSP, Commodore Builders and Millennium Partners.
