New Braunfels among new cities added to the national sustainable transport group

New Braunfels, Texas – The city of New Braunfels was one of the six new cities that were added to the register of the national association of city traffic officers (NACTO) who supported the construction of sustainable transport systems.

New Braunfels is the sixth city in Texas, which is followed by the list, including Harris County's transit agency. The announcement on Thursday included Mesa, Arizona and Cleveland, Ohio.

“The NACTO network enables cities to exchange courageous ideas, test new approaches and scale what works,” said Ryan Russo, managing director of Nacto. “The range in geography and size among these six new members reflects the growing dynamics for people from people in North America.”

Other Nacto member cities in Texas are:

  • San Antonio

  • Austin

  • Houston

  • Metropolitan Transit Authority from Harris County

  • Dallas

  • Fort Worth

Nacto spent instructions for transport policy and practices through design guidelines all year round.

At the beginning of January, for example, Nacto released an update for his Urban Bikeway Design Guide.

While the guidelines are not available for San Antonio projects according to its design phase and construction, the spokesman for the transport department, Joe Conger, could be considered for the implementation of the bicycle device, which is connected to the recently updated bike network plan.

The NACTO member cities were the key to the design of the cross -party infrastructure law (Bil), which was adopted after the Biden administration.

The BIL has proposed recommendations for a number of national transport programs and projects.

Similarly, it was made billions in financing to support the construction of pedestrian, bicycle and transit infrastructures and the “Reconing Communities” program of the US Transport Ministry.

However, the movements of the Trump administration and even at the state level in Texas have tried to undo programs and projects in connection with road diets and active transport.

“Proud to be a member”

According to Garry Ford, the director of the city's transport and capital improvements, the membership of New Braunfels is a crucial time for the city.

Ford said that New Braunfels would also implement a strategic plan and a road safety plan.

“We are proud to be a member of the Nacto community so that we can learn and work together Other member cities in our striving for safe, accessible and sustainable transport, ”said Ford.

Ford said in an email to KSAT Friday, several right of courses in downtown New Braunfels and an updated program for traffic calms in the neighborhood helped to bring the city on the list.

“We will soon start a pedestrian and bicycle action plan that will benefit from the nacto instructions and improve our network,” said Ford in his e -mail.

New Braunfels is also at the same time in the implementation of a strategic plan and a Street Safety action plan.

“We look forward to taking up the best practices for transport design and guidelines and contributing to the best practices while we develop our local plans and update our requirements,” said Ford.
