New Johnson Controls Innovation Center reaches health and sustainability milestones

The most important sustainability functions of the Engineering Lab include:

  • Native landscape design, reduction in irrigation by 70%
  • Six charging stations with electric vehicles
  • Water-efficient fish courses, earn maximum Leed water efficiency points
  • Low VOC-emitting materials for optimal inner air quality
  • A 126 kW
  • Product transparency and optimization through Cradle to Cradle, Red List Free and EPD
    Certified materials
  • Over 10% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by embodied carbon analysis and reuse of existing materials

The Well-Building standard, managed by the International Well Building Institute, measures the construction of characteristics that affect human health and well-being. In order to earn gold, contains the engineering laboratory:

  • Access to daylight and views in the main areas of work
  • Extended air film systems and continuous monitoring of air quality indoors
  • Ergonomically designed rooms to promote physical comfort
  • Support for intellectual well-being through the involvement of prayer, well-being and focus rooms
  • Showers, lockers and bicycle storage that use the employees who use the adjacent OAK Leaf Trail

“This recognition confirms the care and cooperation that entered into every design and construction decision,” said Kelsey Webb, architect and project manager at the EUA. “Johnson Controls has set ambitious goals, and together we have delivered a space that supports both environmental and human health.”

The WJEL supports around 250 employees who are devoting themselves to the development and testing of the next generation of commercial building controls with special areas for hardware and software development. The building combines advanced F&E space with flexible collaboration zones to accelerate innovations.

Johnson Controls and Weas Development has teamed up with Eua, Mortenson Construction and CBRE GLOBAL Commercial Real Estate services in order to implement the new 109,000 square meter facility. It comprises four York® YMAE modular Air-to-water heat pumps, a York® YVAA air conditioning system and a York® Custom Air handling, innovative products that are both efficient and environmental compatibility. The building also has Metasys 14 Building Automation System and OpenBlue, the award-winning AI-optimized smart building software from Johnson Controls.

“We are pleased to congratulate Johnson Controls to achieve good gold for his Warren Johnson Engineering Lab – strong evidence of her unshakable commitment to health, performance and guided tour by example,” said Rachel Hodgdon, President and CEO of International Well Building Institute. “As a long-standing innovator in healthy construction solutions, Johnson Controls continues to increase the bar, and we are proud to describe it as an estimated partner in our joint mission to drive the People-First locomotive.”

In addition, Johnson Controls committed himself to the health and well-being of the employees by writing into the well-in-scale program by applying to the use of fountain functions, reviews and certificates throughout the company.
