Luray, Ohio (Wsyx) – The Licking Regional Water District (LRWD) has completed phase 1 of the Union Township Water project in Licking County.
Officials say that the work is an important milestone to offer the Luray community in the municipality of Union of reliable water.
“This project represents years of planning and cooperation between the district and the community,” said Jim Roberts, Executive Director of LRWD. “Phase 1 is a considerable step to ensure that our residents and companies have reliable access to clean water for future generations.”
Construction of phase 1 began in August 2024, whereby the project was fully financed by the incentives accepted by the municipality for economic development in order to avoid the adoption of costs to existing customers.
The new infrastructure extends from the Gale Road along the US 40 to the southern to the Interstate 70 exchange with a total project costs of around 5 million US dollars.
Phase 2 of the water pipe project is extended to the north to the refugee road, east to the municipal borders of the village of Hebron and south of the Interstate 70. Phase 2 is currently in the design phase, whereby the bidding contracts are expected to begin this winter.
Phase 3 introduces the Luray area of the sewer water in Luray.
