In addition to the practical practical competitions, a student paper competition, a 3D printing competition, a curriculum vitae building store and a networking event took place at the weekend.
“As a chairman for planning, it was incredible to see how hard work our team brought to life last year,” said Matt Geib, a major for civil engineering in the third year and Vice President of the Asce chapter of Penn State. “This annual symposium offers the students an incredible opportunity to learn to work together and compete in an entertaining and professional environment.”
ASCE is the oldest civil engineering in the United States and, according to the company, represents more than 160,000 active members in 177 different countries. Student chapter are a main pillar of the ASCE mission to combine students for civil engineering and industry experts with more than 400 student chapters across the country. Penn State Asce is one of the five opening chapters founded over 100 years ago.
“Our student Chapter has a long history in which the university is very strong at both regional and national level,” said Collin Sussman, a student for civil engineering and President of Penn State Asce. “This symposium served as an astonishing opportunity to present our students and institutions to all school -age schools. I am glad that we had the chance to appreciate all the efforts of the teams and to watch the weekend together in Happy Valley.”
Several Penn State University Park teams that were placed all weekends through competitions: the Steel Bridge team became second in total and placed six individual categories; The concrete team took fourth place. The measurement team took the first overall trace for the third year in a row. The Sustainable Solutions team took second place overall. And the 3D printing team took the second overall.
In addition, the ASCE committee for student members Penn State Asce awarded the ASCE Prize of 2025 Distinguished Chapter for Region 2, which marked the fifth year in a row that the chapter received the award.
