On September 4, Rice University celebrated a large milestone with a closing ceremony for the new Chao College and the future permanent home of Lovett College. The ceremony was the completion of the highest points of building superstructure on the two neighboring residential buildings, in which almost 600 owls will soon be accommodated.

The new buildings, which are located on the site of the former Sid Richardson College, are to be opened in autumn 2026. Chao College welcomes his first class of enrollment students, while Lovett College will move into his new home next to the chao after more than half a century in its original building.
