Renishaw, a global engineering technology company, introduced the latest in its RenAM 500 series machines for metal additive manufacturing – the RenAM 500D – at this year's Formnext event. This dual-laser variant offers additive manufacturing users flexibility, productivity and cost efficiency – and lowers the barrier to entry for high-productivity metal AM.
The new machine is designed to deliver exceptional product quality and productivity across a wider range of budgets. The RenAM 500D features two 500W lasers that can access the entire build platform – providing superior performance compared to single laser systems. Additionally, the RenAM 500D Ultra, equipped with Renishaw's TEMPUS technology, allows the laser to fire while the coater is moving – saving up to nine seconds per build layer. This also contributes to a production speed that is up to three times faster than conventional single laser systems.
“The new dual laser system expands the current RenAM 500 portfolio and offers exceptional productivity at a competitive cost,” said Louise Callanan, head of additive manufacturing at Renishaw. “By making high-quality AM systems more productive than ever before, we aim to lower the barrier to entry for this advanced technology and encourage broader adoption across diverse industries.”
The dual laser configuration of the new RenAM 500D series ensures higher throughput and shorter production times compared to single laser systems – helping to reduce cost per part. The improved speed and performance of dual laser systems, including 500D, 500D Flex and 500D Ultra, allows companies currently using single laser systems to significantly expand their production capabilities without increasing their factory footprint.
The RenAM 500D models are fully compatible with Renishaw's AM software suite, including Renishaw Central and QuantAM. This seamless integration ensures that current AM users can introduce the dual laser system into operations without causing any disruption to current workflows.
Renishaw's RenAM 500 series machines feature high-power lasers that access the entire powder bed, intelligent gas flow for the highest part quality and configurable powder handling.
