The work to expand the MAP started in 2019 and included the Pietro Maria Bardi building, consisting of 14 floors with 7,821 m² area, and the latest concession of the Belvedere, known as the MASPS free span of the institution, from 10,485 m² to 21,863 m².
“The completion of this project is expanding the available square meter number of the Museum of Art Exhibitions, Education Programs and Art Studies,” added Cláudio Neves Ourives, CEO and managing partner of Penron Brazil. “More of the collection of over 11,000 objects of the museum is now accessible to the public than ever.”
Penron Brazil was selected to offer a comprehensive sealing solution for the new building in order to protect both the concrete facades that are exposed to the tropical climate, as well as the undergrade concrete structures that were exposed to a high groundwater level.
“The PenRON system met the performance parameters of the MASP project success against 13 competition solutions and we have provided support and technical expertise on site for the topical penetron applications,” says Cláudio Neves Ourives. “Finally, the use of our crystalline waterproof products for the LEED certification (leadership in energy and environmental design) contributed to the project.”
Around 3,000 m³ (3,930 ms 3) New concrete were treated with Penetron bime mixture, a crystalline water sealing mixture, to ensure the imperfection of the new basement structures. Penetron-Acmix was also used for the 73 m high outer concrete slab, which was then sealed with a topical use of Peneseeal Pro, a spray fluid sealer and penesis hydroguard, a liquid, repulsive surface coating, for the formation of an underground stitching to protect against water penetration and hairline cracks under the surface.
“As an important municipal structure that submits an important art collection and a popular venue for exhibitions with a large number of visitors, MASPS was the greatest need to find a solution that would provide long -term durability and reduce or even eliminate the need for the future maintenance of the specific structures,” concludes Cláudio Neves. “Penetron fulfilled these requirements perfectly.”
