Text description provided by the architects. In the past, sports and cultural institutions in China were often designed with iconic, exaggerated forms. However, the recent trends have changed to focus on the experiences of the location and its connection to the surrounding urban environment. The proposal of Shekou Cultural and Sports Park reacts to this human-centered era, whereby the public commitment, accessibility and a mixture of indoor and outdoor areas are emphasized and a strong feeling of location is maintained. The site is a medium -sized public park on recovered country, surrounded by shared apartments with a high density. We wanted to maintain the character of the park by dividing the area into two equal parts: the park and the main building. The park has winding paths, wavy lawn and protected public squares of various sizes, which creates an inviting, versatile space for various activities and provided for everyone.

The main building is located in the eastern half of the site and follows a modernist design that is adapted to the moist climate of the southern Chinese climate. Its layout uses several horizontal ground levels that extend the park and the city into the building. The design blurred the border between the indoor and outdoor area and reacts to the climate by providing shades and natural ventilation. Functional rooms are transparently arranged on elevated aircraft, while service areas such as elevators, toilets and supply rooms are concentrated in vertical concrete waves.

The three levels of the building are designed in such a way that they meet the functional requirements within a height of 24 meters and maintain a high-high structure that contains the “Sports Culture Sport” program. The openness of the ground levels enables public access even when the functional rooms are closed and offer different activity rooms. A sunken place on the basement level leads to natural light and air in additional rooms. In order to ensure comfort, we carefully set the scale and shares of platforms and stairs, which was avoided by avoiding rushed ascent.

The public areas maintain transparency and accessibility and create different diversity of interaction and spatial diversity. The building materials are selected to reflect architectural elements such as walls, ceilings and floors, whereby a 1×1 -meter modular system is used that emphasizes the modern aesthetics and construction logic of the building. The contrast between liquid concrete and precise metal components distinguishes structural and non -structural elements.

Ventilation channels are integrated into the ceiling area outdoors, whereby the ventilation slots at the inner/external borders maximize and maximize the ceiling height and improves the feeling of openness when transitioning between interiors and free, especially on the second floor. Despite its modern design, the outstanding presence of the building in the park is reminiscent of traditional pavilions due to its extensive view and the scenic depth of the park. The meandering paths in the landscape continue to give the park with qualities of regional architecture and traditional gardens, although they are not traditionally expressed. Inside, the design reflects the functional requirements of each room. The swimming pool and the changing rooms use oceanic colors, while the cultural area contains warm wooden materials for comfort on the second floor.

The interior of the book trade contrasts the flowing spatial design with the grid -like structure of the building, and the sports areas have lively, dynamic colors against the gray tones of the building and create a striking environment for sporting activities. The park has become popular since its opening and serves as an event location for a variety of outdoor activities, including group dance and child's play, especially for residents and nearby schools. The building houses a wide range of sports and cultural programs and attracts visitors from all over Shenzhen and offers an open, modern space for social interaction.
