The association welcomes a new European strategy for life science - but needs more specific initiatives

The European strategy of European life science on Wednesday welcomes Lif, the Industry Association for Pharmaceutical Companies in Denmark.

“We are very certain that there will now be a European strategy for life science. We have wanted for a long time. It is also certain that it has a strong focus on making Europe the most attractive place for Life Science in 2030, because there is a broad agreement that the competitiveness of Europe has to be strengthened,” says CEO Ida Sofie Jensen in a written response to Medwatch.

With the new strategy presented on Wednesday, the European Commission aims to improve the investment environment, to create better market access and to promote the spread of innovations in life science. The EU will provide a total of EUR 10 billion of the strategy operated from 2024 to 2029.

The Business Organizations Confederation of Danish Industry and the Danish Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday were also pleased that a European strategy for life science has now been adopted, but both parties also called for concrete descriptions of how the European Commission will implement the new strategy.

At Life, Ida Sofie Jensen also misses concrete initiatives in relation to the new strategy. It also emphasizes the financing of the strategy.

“It is important that new resources for the implementation of the strategy are prioritized. Although the financing is mentioned by EU programs, it does not seem to follow new means of strategy itself,” she says and adds:

“We support the main goal of the strategy: to make the EU the most attractive place in the world by 2030. And we are pleased that the strategy focuses on the entire ecosystem, including ambition for a quick and efficient market access for life scientific innovations.

Despite the lack of specific initiatives, Jensen welcomes the focus of the strategy to the green transition and the proposal for a network of European excellence centers in advanced therapies (ATMPS).

“If Europe is to be successful in order to regain its global position in life science, we have to highly determine the bar by focusing on the entire ecosystem from research, production and innovation. It is about strengthening the power of innovation in the health sector so that Europe can better use the new technological possibilities in clinical research, specialize treatments, medical medicine, advanced therapy, health data and AIS data and This strategy and this strategy.
