Hemel Hanpstead, England – The Federation of the British Safety Industry warns security specialists of personal protective equipment that were bought on Tiktok.
BSIF draws attention to three recalls, which were recently exhibited by the British office for product safety and standards for PPE that are sold on the short form video platform, including one for Gaomi Baili Safety Shoes (model FZ-99). The product was listed in the Tikok shop under several descriptors, including “men's anti-Smash and anti-point shoes, breathable non-slip work shoes, comfortable safety shoes for men, fashionable shoes for daily clothing, boy”.
The other recalls refer to Xiangtai security belts and the reusable half-sighted mask filter-dust gas atmosphere from essential PPE 7-in-1.
“We suspect that many of these products are bought personally by employees – including employees who are not direct employees, but are still legally obliged to provide PPE for the employers,” said Alan Murray, CEO from BSIF, in a press release. “However, these people often receive a budget to buy their own PSA, but may not understand the regulations or certification requirements in connection with security products.
“The reality is that inferior PSA, which is advertised as protection, simply does not protect workers and endangered life.”
