In addition to a busy football park, the city council of Dallas will vote on a new proposal for concrete systems and reconcile the development needs against environmental problems.
Dallas – A debate about whether a new concrete plant should be approved in addition to a football park in Dallas, the city council of Dallas will lead to a final coordination on Wednesday, in which environmental concerns against the needs of the construction industry are used in the ongoing development boom in north -test.
The disputes center focus on a proposed concrete chart plant that is built next to the Moneygram Park, a 120 hectare leisure facility with 19 soccer fields in the 2100 Walnut Hill Lane in the northwest of Dallas. The park belongs to the city of Dallas, but is managed and operated by FC Dallas.
“This place is full on weekends,” said Kathryn Guerra, chairwoman of the Dallas Environmental Commission and TCEQ campaign manager at Advocacy Group Public Citizen.
The environmental commission rejects the new facility and calls the health concerns for parking users, especially children who would come directly from the system against the wind.
“There are really significant concerns about families who use this park,” said Guerra.
According to Guerra, the Commission is particularly concerned about the pollution of particles that affect young athletes.
“Especially young people who train and breathe difficulty because they breathe this pollution, the more they will influence their body,” she said.
If this were approved, this would be another concrete plant near the park, which is located in an industrial area.
“It would be the second, sub -opting plant,” remarked Guerra, pointing out that an existing plant is “right behind us”.
BJ Johnson, the business owner behind the proposed facility, said that he was not available for an interview in front of the camera, but said that his operation would follow all applicable environmental regulations. He told the WFAA that he had selected the location because there were other concrete batch plants nearby and he was brought to zones for a kind of industrial use.
Johnson asked where else he could find, if not in this industrially zoned area.
Guerra released this argument: “If I had a dollar for each time [concrete batch plant owners] Ask this question. It is not the supporters to make business decisions. It is for the supporters to make them aware that this is not a great situation. “
While the area is zoned for certain industrial use, a specific work, such as the proposed approval of the city council, requires. Several advice centers have already recommended against the project, whereby Guerra found that “environmental commission prohibits this type of industry alongside parks.
The Moneygram Soccer Park has 14 fields of full size and five junior fields that play players of all ages. The facility for tournament quality, which, according to the Dallas Sports Commission, is favorable west of I-35E, organizes numerous national and local events, including tournaments, league games and clinics.
The environmental chair asked whether Dallas can maintain his reputation for high -quality recreation rooms if such facilities are permitted in addition to parks.
“In Dallas we would like to say that we have a first -class parking system and is really not possible with such sources of pollution,” she said.
An FC Dallas spokesman partially said: “While we understand the importance of development and infrastructure, we promote the thoughtful consideration of how such projects can affect the rooms of the community, especially those who are devoting themselves to youth and relaxation.”
