The City of Boise is accepting creative submissions for a new flag design

BOISE, Idaho – The city of Boise wants to update its flag and needs residents' help. The current flag includes a blue and white motif with the Capitol and trees on the horizon. Once a design is selected, city officials hope to unveil the updated flag by spring.

Boise Mayor Lauren McLean says the change is consistent with a nationwide trend of cities and towns expressing their unique identities through updated flags. “Boise is such a vibrant city and it is time for our city flag to represent our community, history and values,” McLean said.

The city of Boise plans to release a public survey next week asking residents what they would like to see on the new flag. These results will then be offered to local artists as part of an open call for proposals in early February.

The city even created a flag design committee to select finalists using a “blind review process.” Once the finalists are selected, the City of Boise will allow a public vote to decide the future of the flag. “I look forward to seeing our community’s ideas and designs,” McLean added.

Starting next week, residents will be able to access the community survey and stay updated on the progress of the redevelopment.
