The MACE Dragados Joint Venture (MDJV), the contractor of the Curzon Street Station of the HS2, is preparing for a significant increase in construction activity in 2025. This is the beginning of a number of large contract prices for the Birmingham flagship station.

MPB Structures, a specialist for civil engineering based in Birmingham, has ensured the contract for the construction of the substructure foundation. This phase is followed by the ongoing grants of Keltbray, in which 2,000 concrete piles are installed to support the foundations of the station.

From January 2025, a team of approximately 140 MPB employees will start working on the complicated substructure. Her tasks include excavation of 65,000 cubic meters of earth, with around 17,000 cubic meters of concrete being used to install 417 pile caps and over 4,700 tons of reinforcement steel for the ground rays of the station are included.

In addition, the team will develop the new concrete structures waterproof, develop the drainage network inside and around the train station and build damping tissues to store rainwater that are recycled for use within the ward as soon as it becomes in operation.

The Curzon Street Station is ready to become a main goal and a lively departure point in the new high-speed railway network in Great Britain. It offers excellent connectivity to Eastside and Digbeth and promotes a broader regeneration by linking the learning and creative quarters, new living developments and the city center.

The station will offer seamless connections to the local transport network, including buses and Midland Metro, with a tram line next to and under the train station. In addition, new public spaces are created, including two squares and a promenade.
